Under Patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum
Dubai / Thursday, March 29th, 2018: Under Patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sports Intellectual Property Forum was commenced yesterday. The event is organized by National Olympic Academy in cooperation with Dhahi Khalfan Intellectual Property Centre, which is under umbrella of Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA), at Pullman City Center Hotel in Dubai on 28 and 29 March 2018.
UAE FA has been represented in this great event by Dr. Khalifa Al Ghafli, Board Member; Ahmed Bhadir, Assistant General Secretary for Administrative Affairs and Mohamed Sorour, Head of Competitions.
The Assistant General Secretary, Bhadir affirmed that sports plays pivotal role in generating revenues and investments, especially at this era of professionalism in which all sports clubs are changed to commercial entities relying mainly on commercialization of branding, broadcasting rights and alike.
“Efforts must be exerted to protect the investments of sports entities from ambush marketing and undue use of insignias, trademarks, brands and all other items of intellectual property, in order to guarantee sustainable financial statuses that would allow them to make achievements and success”, he added.
The first day of the event witnessed the presence of HE Abdulmohsen Al Dosary, Assistant General Secretary of Gemera; Authority for Sports; Mohamed Saleh, General Secretary of Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation; HE Abdulqodoos Al Obaidli, Assistant of General Commander of Excellence and Pioneering Affairs in Dubai Police and Chairman of EIPA; Saeed Abdulghafar, Board Member of General Authority for Sports; Mohamed Bin Darweesh, Olympic Committee CEO and Saleh Hasan, General Secretary of UAE Athletics Federation.
The forum highlights various goals aiming at enlighten attendees on intellectual property laws and its relation to sport entities in maximizing innovation and creativity which are the main incentives for the development of sport.
Pillars covered by the forum, include but not limited to, definition of intellectual property and its historical development, cheated sports products, branding, patent and sports and the role of media in disseminating the culture of intellectual property among various stakeholders.
