The UAE football association hosted a special ceremony in honour of Shaikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qassimi, Chairman of the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) at the association’s offices in Dubai on Thursday.
Yousuf Al Serkal, chairman of the FA interim committee thanked Shaikh Mohammed bin Saqr for all what has been doing to promote the UAE football during the last years.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qassimi said he’s truly honoured with the move of the FA saying that he’s immediate concern is to shift the headquarters of the federation to the UAE. He also thanked the wise leadership of the UAE for all their support and backing for sports in general and football in particular.
The IFFHS is an organization that chronicles the history and records of association football. It was founded on 27 March 1984 at Leipzig (East Germany) by Dr. Alfredo Pöge with the blessings of general secretary of the FIFA at the time, Dr. Helmut Käser. In 2006 the IFFHS based at Borsigallee 15, 53125 Bonn, Germany.
During its early stages, and through the years until 2002, the IFFHS concentrated on publishing quarterly magazines like Fußball-Weltzeitschrift, Libero spezial deutsch, and Libero international. When these had to be discontinued for reasons which were not officially told, the organization published its material in a series of multi-lingual books in co-operation with sponsors. The statistical organization has now confined its publishing activities to its website, receiving logistical support from FIFA, organization that recognise the IFFHS and its work although the latter has no affiliation with the football's governing body. The magazine's back issues can still be obtained through internet sources.
The country’s football boss also thanked and honoured advocate Essa bin Haider for his generous donation by providing special charter flight for the UAE fans to Tashkent to cheer the Olympic national team players in their tough clash against Uzbekistan in the final round of the 2012 London Games qualifiers.
