Former France international Christian Karembeu believes Les Bleus can go the distance at next month’s European Championships under his former colleague Laurent Blanc.
Karembeu, who won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 with France, is confident Blanc’s philosophy and the “incredibly talented” players he has under him can give them their first major trophy in over a decade.
“It’s time for the kids to show that they have the consciousness and the maturity to think about the pitch and the football game and that they can show their ability and talent because they are full of talent,” said Karembeu, who was in Dubai as a special guest for the FIFA Interactive World Cup finals at Souk Madinat Jumeirah.
“From what I’ve seen in some games, I’m sure they can go very far in this competition. We need to win because we have done so well in qualification and fully deserve to be one of the top teams at the tournament.”
Karembeu, who met with Blanc before flying to Dubai, added: “Under Laurent Blanc I’m sure that the guys are ready to play and to shine again because Les Bleus are still there.
“[Samir] Nasri, Hatem Ben Arfa, Karim Benzema, Franck Ribery, step by step these guys have improved. I think they know what to do now and these are the men who drive the game which is good for the squad.
"In defence there is Philippe Mexes, Adil Rami and Laurent Koscielny who are very stable and I think that yes we can reach and win the final at the Euros.”
